A thrilling race at Road Atlanta wrapped up the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup. The #8 car had a positive first practice but experienced problems in qualifying which resulted in a poor grip position for Saturday's race. Dave rocketed through the field on the opening laps, passing as many as 10 cars before encountering more problems and slowly slipping backwards through the field, finishing 25th. Dave finished 24th in the overall championship, a good rookie year result considering that he came into the series 2 races late. Dave looks forward to next year in the Cup and a strong future in professional racing.

Wet conditions and an unfamiliar track in New Jersey saw Dave Heinz qualify 28th for Race 1 and 31st for Race 2. In Race 1, Dave made up a few positions in the opening laps, only to be taken out of the competitive running by contact with the #2 car. Realizing that his race was already run, Dave focused on learning as much as he could about the track to prepare for Race 2. Race 2 saw the field start under safety car in wet conditions. After the green flag, Dave's reconnaissance of the track paid huge dividends, allowing him to move up to a best to date finish of 14th. This ties Dave Heinz with Mark Pombo for most positions gained in a single race, who also moved up 16 spots.

Iowa presented a different challenge for Dave Heinz. A newcomer to roval style circuits, Dave qualified 25th. A poor start saw him drop back, however, he gained speed throughout the race and after a long battle with Adam Kretschmer finished 22nd. Although disappointed to finish out of the points, David is pleased with his performance this weekend and will take the lessons learned in Iowa to New Jersey next week.

After a strong weekend full of improvement Dave recorded a 17th place finish in Lime Rock. Tire problems cut qualifying short, putting Dave, who did not get a hotlap, in 27th place. During the race he was able to make good clean passes, moving himself up through the ranks lap after lap. Finishing 17th brings Dave 8 points, putting him 24th in the overall championship and 8th in the rookie championship.
